With two wars going on and the recent tragedy at Fort Hood, Texas, the plight of veterans has come more and more to the forefront. Tales of valor and sacrifice are mixed with the harsh realities of what happens to some of our service members when they return home, as well as the risks they take everyday in putting on that uniform.
According to the Pentagon, there are 184,251 troops on the ground in Afghanistan and Iraq. This year more than 260,000 veterans will be homeless. More than 35 percent of veterans who have served in the Iraq War will suffer from some form of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. And at least 5.5 million veterans are living with some form of disability. You can help support veterans who need our help most by contacting the following organizations, by volunteering and by donating your time and energy to make life better for those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.

Happy Veteran's Day to all our troops, past and present, here at New Security Action.
You can also help support our troops through supporting the fight to close Guantanamo Bay. The prison at Guantanamo Bay hurts the men and women we put in harm’s way because the prison is used as "a major recruiting poster for al Qaeda," said Jon Soltz of VoteVets. Soltz also said, "Closing Guantanamo … helps us reclaim the moral high ground, and help our troops in harm’s way." That’s why we need to close Gitmo now.
