No More Troops

On Dec. 1 we learned that President Obama will escalate the war in Afghanistan by sending 30,000 more troops. We’re deeply disappointed and couldn’t disagree more with the President’s actions. In the midst of a severe economic recession, we should be nation building at home, not in Afghanistan.

But the White House doesn’t have the last word on this decision – you do.

Know the Facts

The cost of sending 30,000 additional troops to Afghanistan would be roughly $30 billion per year, or $1 million per soldier
More than $930 billion has been spent on the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan since 2001.
Continuing the war would further prop up President Hamid Karzai, whose regime is rife with corruption, graft and election fraud.
Support of Karzai discredits us in the eyes of the Afghan people.
Increasing the military presence in Afghanistan would fuel the insurgency. A study by the Carnegie Endowment found that the single most important factor behind the resurgence of the Taliban is the presence of U.S. and NATO forces in Afghanistan.
The President’s top advisers believe there are less than 100 al Qaeda fighters left in Afghanistan.
According to retired Gen. Jim Jones, these hundred or so fighters capacity is diminished and they have no bases and no ability to launch attacks on us or our allies.
Our military is already stretched too thin. Asking troops to make a fifth or sixth tour in combat will break our military.
